The Bundesliga community is mourning the sudden passing of Roger Prinzen, the academy director of FC Heidenheim, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday at the age of 57. His departure has left a deep sense of sorrow among colleagues, players, and fans across German football.

Prinzen was widely respected both for his contributions on and off the pitch. During his playing career in the 1990s, he featured as a dependable centre-back, making appearances in both the Bundesliga and Germany’s second tier. He represented clubs including Darmstadt, Wattenscheid, and Hannover 96, earning recognition for his consistency and professionalism.

After retiring as a player, he moved into coaching and player development, where he continued to make a lasting impact. He worked with youth and reserve teams, including roles with Nürnberg and the Liechtenstein Under-21 setup. He also stepped in as interim head coach for Nürnberg’s first team during the 2013–14 season, showing leadership during important transitional moments.

In 2018, Prinzen joined FC Heidenheim’s youth system, where he later became academy director. They described him as a committed leader, mentor, and valued colleague whose influence will be remembered for years to come.

The club expressed deep sadness at his passing, extending heartfelt condolences to his wife Sonja and their children, Marlon, Mia, and Tim. They noted that his sudden passing has left a significant and painful void within the organization.

Across the football community, many continue to reflect on his legacy, remembering both his achievements in the game and the lasting impact he made on the lives of young players and colleagues throughout his career.
