The collision was reported at approximately 7:18 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Monmouth Mall jughandle, prompting an immediate emergency response. First responders rushed to the scene and transported Chavez-Solis to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 7:40 a.m.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 2019 Honda Insight, traveling southbound on the highway, struck Chavez-Solis as he was walking from the eastbound side of the roadway. Authorities have stated that the driver, an adult male, was not injured and remained at the scene following the collision. At this time, no charges or citations have been issued in connection with the incident.
