David Elliott, Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 70 South Leaves One Dead, Several Injured.
Authorities are investigating a serious multi-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday evening along Highway 70 South, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.
According to police, the collision involved three pickup trucks and took place near Beverly Hills Drive. The driver who lost his life has been identified as 59-year-old David Elliott of Cunningham. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported, where Elliott was pronounced dead.
Two passengers who were traveling with Elliott were also involved in the incident. They sustained injuries but were transported to Vanderbilt Hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Preliminary reports indicate that Elliott was driving a blue Ford F-150 eastbound on Highway 70 at the time of the crash. Investigators say a white Ford F-150 traveling in the opposite direction veered off the roadway before re-entering traffic. In the process, the vehicle reportedly crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with Elliott’s truck.
Moments later, a third vehicle—a Dodge Ram pickup also traveling east—struck the rear of the white Ford F-150. The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 20-year-old, sustained minor injuries and was treated following the incident.
The driver of the white Ford F-150, identified as 48-year-old William Richards of White Bluff, was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital with critical injuries. Authorities have not released updates on his current condition.
Law enforcement officials are continuing to examine the events leading up to the crash. Based on preliminary findings, charges may be filed in connection with the incident, though no formal announcements have been made at this time.
The crash led to temporary traffic disruptions in the area as emergency crews worked to assist those involved and clear the roadway. Investigators remained on scene for several hours to gather evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events.
Authorities are reminding drivers to exercise caution, remain attentive, and adjust to road conditions to help reduce the risk of serious accidents. As the investigation continues, officials are expected to release additional details once more information becomes available.
Community members have expressed sympathy for those affected, as the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and awareness.
