Stella Nakamura, 93-Year-Old Woman Identified in Fatal Liliha Pedestrian Crash.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner has identified the pedestrian who died following a traffic collision in Liliha earlier this week.

Officials said 93-year-old Stella Nakamura was involved in the crash Wednesday morning at approximately 6:50 a.m. The incident occurred in front of 347 N. Kuakini Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Police reported that Nakamura was walking within a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision. Investigators stated that the pedestrian “walk” signal was illuminated when the incident occurred.

According to authorities, a 67-year-old man was driving and turning left from a nearby driveway when his vehicle struck Nakamura. The driver remained at the scene following the crash and was not injured, police said.

Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported Nakamura to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced deceased, officials confirmed.

Investigators have indicated that speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Police have not announced whether any citations or charges will be filed, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The crash marks Oahu’s seventh traffic fatality of the year, according to officials. At the same time last year, the island had also recorded seven traffic-related deaths.

Authorities continue to remind drivers and pedestrians alike to remain alert, follow traffic signals, and exercise caution, particularly in areas with marked crosswalks and heavy foot traffic.
