Authorities have confirmed that a motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased in a crash Wednesday afternoon on the Kansas Turnpike in Wichita.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred at approximately 1:38 p.m. on northbound Interstate 35 near E. Harry Street, located on the southeast side of the city.

Officials said a 2003 Honda motorcycle was traveling in the right lane when it veered off the left side of the highway and struck a concrete barrier.

The rider, identified as 47-year-old Shaun Keller of Augusta, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities confirmed that Keller was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Investigators are reviewing the circumstances of the crash, including factors that may have contributed to the vehicle leaving the roadway.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reminds drivers and motorcyclists to remain alert and follow safety precautions while traveling on highways.
