Sfenson Simeus, Giles County Authorities Investigate Fatal Shooting on Interstate 65.
The Giles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Sunday night along Interstate 65 in Giles County.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 11:30 p.m. to reports of a motor vehicle crash involving injuries. When they arrived at the scene, investigators determined the crash happened after the driver had been shot from another vehicle.
Authorities identified the driver as 26-year-old Sfenson Simeus of Lake Worth. Officials said he was traveling southbound on I-65 at the time of the incident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Elda Simeus of Plainfield, also sustained a gunshot wound. She was transported to a medical facility for treatment and is currently listed in stable condition, according to authorities.
Sheriff Joe Purvis addressed the incident in a public statement, describing it as a senseless act of violence. He emphasized that the Sheriff’s Office is fully committed to identifying and apprehending the person or persons responsible.
Investigators have not yet released information about a suspect or possible motive. Authorities continue to gather evidence and review information related to the events leading up to the shooting.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have relevant information, to contact investigators.
