Authorities in North Palm Beach, Florida, are investigating a serious crash that left one woman dead and another hospitalized Monday evening. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a crash around 6 p.m. along 11000 Jack Nicklaus Drive, near John D. MacArthur Beach State Park.
Investigators said a 2024 Lexus RX350 was traveling northbound when it approached a left-hand curve in the roadway. For reasons that remain under investigation, the driver was unable to negotiate the turn. Authorities reported that the SUV veered to the right, left the roadway, and went down a small embankment before striking a concrete utility pole.
Emergency crews from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and assessed those involved in the crash. The passenger in the vehicle, identified as 77-year-old Sara Dunham of Woodstock, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The driver, a 68-year-old woman from New Smyrna Beach, Florida, sustained serious injuries. Authorities said she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for medical treatment.
Investigators noted that after the initial impact, the SUV rotated slightly before coming to a stop. Officials also confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
