The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has identified two individuals who were killed in separate shootings over a two-day period in New Orleans. Authorities say the incidents remain under investigation, and no arrests have been announced.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, the first shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday in the 3300 block of Hamilton Street in the Hollygrove neighborhood. Officers responding to the scene found 39-year-old Rudi Gastinell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said Gastinell was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, according to officials. Investigators have not released information regarding a possible suspect or motive in the case.
The second fatal shooting took place Friday afternoon near Boettner Park in the St. Thomas Development neighborhood. Authorities said officers were dispatched to the area around 12:55 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers located 35-year-old Zachary Hunt at the intersection of Saint Andrew and St. Thomas streets, near the Walmart Supercenter on Tchoupitoulas Street. Hunt had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
As investigators processed the scene, members of the surrounding community gathered nearby. Law enforcement officials worked to secure the area and collect evidence.
Police have not indicated whether the two incidents are connected, and there have been no announcements of arrests in either case. Authorities continue to ask anyone with information about the shootings to come forward.
The New Orleans Police Department says both investigations remain active. Officials have not released additional details at this time but stated that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
