According to the New York State Police, officers responded around 1:25 a.m. to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 90 in the town of Westmoreland.
Investigators confirmed that Robert Wells, 76, of Palmyra, was driving a tractor-trailer that collided with the rear of an empty car carrier being hauled by another westbound tractor-trailer. Both vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder following the impact.
Tragically, Wells was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other tractor-trailer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital for evaluation.
