Remembering Dennis Vaughn Wilson, 81, U.S. Army Veteran and Patriot.
Dennis Vaughn Wilson, 81, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at the VA Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Baltimore City, Maryland, on November 27, 1944, Denny was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He was also an esteemed soldier and patriot, proudly serving his country with honor.
A graduate of Loyola High School and Loyola College in Baltimore, Denny completed the U.S. Army Officers Candidate School and Military Intelligence Training before deploying to Vietnam in 1969 with the First Infantry Division. His service earned him multiple decorations, including two Bronze Star Medals for heroism and meritorious achievement. Following Vietnam, he continued his military career in Europe with U.S. European Command and the 66th Military Intelligence Brigade during the Cold War.
After retiring from military service, Denny worked as a senior defense contractor at Westinghouse Research and Development Center in Pennsylvania before relocating to Versailles, Kentucky. In his later years, he was cared for with dignity at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Denny’s life was marked by a love of family, American history, travel, and the outdoors. He was a founding sponsor of the National Museum of the United States Army and cherished time spent exploring oceans and beaches, sharing meals with loved ones, and supporting veterans’ causes.
He is survived by his sons Scott Wilson and Eric Wilson, grandchildren Wade and Makayla Wilson, his brother Brian Wilson, and other family members. In accordance with his wishes, Denny will be cremated and interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Additional memorial services will be announced in the coming weeks.
