Police Identify Victim Following Powhatan County Assault.

POWHATAN COUNTY, VIRGINIA — Authorities have identified the woman who died following a domestic assault reported Saturday night in Powhatan County. The investigation remains ongoing, according to the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, February 10, the sheriff’s office confirmed the victim was a 52-year-old woman from Powhatan. Officials said she was the mother of the suspect involved in the case, a 31-year-old man from Chase City County. Names were released by authorities following standard notification procedures.

Deputies were first called to the 2000 block of Red Lane Road at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, after receiving a report of a domestic assault. Multiple units responded to the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance.

When deputies arrived, they found two individuals injured. Authorities said both had sustained serious injuries consistent with a stabbing. Deputies and emergency responders provided first aid at the scene.

Despite life-saving efforts, the woman died before she could be transported to a hospital, officials said. The second injured individual, an adult man, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that he is currently in stable condition.

Later that evening, deputies also responded to a nearby residence as part of their efforts to locate the suspect. Officials said a brief standoff occurred before the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities noted that the suspect was also injured at the time of his arrest and was transported to a hospital for medical care. He has since been reported to be in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

Following his arrest, officials said the suspect faces multiple charges connected to the incident. These include second-degree murder, stabbing with intent to maim or kill, and assault and battery of a family or household member. Authorities emphasized that charges are allegations and that the legal process will continue through the court system.

The Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office said the case remains under active investigation. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review the events leading up to the incident to establish a complete and accurate account.

Officials expressed condolences to the victim’s family and acknowledged the impact such incidents have on the community. They also thanked first responders and assisting agencies for their prompt response during a complex and emotionally difficult situation.

Law enforcement leaders reminded the public that domestic incidents can escalate quickly and encouraged anyone experiencing or witnessing domestic violence to seek help as early as possible through local resources or emergency services.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office. Tips from the public may assist investigators as they work to complete their review and prepare the case for the next stages of the legal process.

As the investigation continues, officials said updates will be shared when additional verified information becomes available. In the meantime, the sheriff’s office urged the community to allow space and privacy for those affected while the case moves forward.
