PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A fire in a home on Levan Drive in Painesville early Tuesday morning resulted in the deaths of one person and a dog, authorities say.

Fire crews were called to the residence at about 7:30 a.m. where they encountered heavy smoke and flames. Responders worked at the scene for several hours as they battled the fire and conducted rescue efforts.

Tragically, firefighters later confirmed that an adult resident and a dog had died due to the incident. The identities of those involved have not yet been released by officials.

The Painesville Fire Department and other first responders remain on scene as of mid‑morning, and an investigation into how the fire started is underway.
