Matthew Cox, Ada County Coroner Identifies 18-Year-Old in Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office has identified the 18-year-old man who died in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning as Matthew Cox.
According to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 3:23 a.m. to a report of a crash near South Meridian Road and East Columbia Road.
Preliminary findings indicate that Cox was driving a 2001 black Jaguar S-Type sedan northbound on South Meridian Road when he lost control of the vehicle while approaching East Columbia Road. Investigators said the vehicle left the roadway, rolled over, and struck a power pole.
Authorities confirmed that Cox was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Detectives stated that speed is believed to have been a contributing factor, though the investigation remains ongoing. Officials have not released additional details as they continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office said the official cause and manner of death are pending completion of the investigation.
Law enforcement officials are reminding drivers to exercise caution, particularly during overnight hours when visibility and road conditions can present additional challenges.
