Lexington Police Investigate Weather‑Related Crash That Resulted in Death.

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Police are investigating a weather‑related crash that left one person dead and two juveniles injured late Saturday night, authorities say.

Officials say officers were called to the South Main Street area near the railroad overpass just before 9 p.m. Saturday, January 24, after a vehicle traveling south left the road, went down an embankment and crashed amid wintry road conditions.

Two young passengers in the vehicle were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police reported. At the time, all occupants of the vehicle were believed to have been accounted for.

The following morning, around 10 a.m., officers returned to the area after a body was found in nearby woods close to the crash site. Investigators later confirmed the victim was Barbara Hartwell of Lexington, who had been walking on the sidewalk when she was struck during the crash.

Lexington police say they are working with the District Attorney’s Office as they continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident. At this time, no additional details about possible charges have been released.
