Kaylin Cardwell, Derrion Smith, Deadly Crash in West Tulsa Leaves Two Dead.
Police in Tulsa are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two people early Monday morning.
According to the Tulsa Police Department, officers responded around 12:30 a.m. to the intersection of 64th Street and Peoria Avenue after receiving reports of a serious crash.
Authorities reported that a maroon GMC Yukon, traveling northbound on Peoria, lost control and rolled before striking two utility poles near 64th Street. Witnesses noted that the vehicle had been traveling at high speeds prior to the crash.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Shy’Mien Hall, and a rear passenger, 27-year-old Kaylin Cardwell, were trapped in the vehicle. Cardwell was pronounced dead at the scene. A front passenger, 21-year-old Derrion Smith, was taken to a local hospital and later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Hall was also hospitalized for treatment and survived.
Investigators said Hall had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20, more than twice the legal limit. On Thursday, Hall was arrested and booked into Tulsa County Jail, facing two counts of second-degree murder.
Authorities continue to review the circumstances of the crash, including speed and impairment factors, as they work to understand what led to this tragic event.
