Jamie Pourciau, Bailey Lassabe, Four People Killed in Two Separate Weekend Crashes on I-12 Near Albany/Springfield Exit.
The Albany Police Department is investigating two separate fatal crashes that occurred over the weekend on Interstate 12 westbound near the Albany/Springfield exit.
According to police, the first crash happened Friday, Feb. 13, around 5:30 p.m. and involved two passenger vehicles and an 18-wheeler. Investigators said a sedan traveling east entered the grass median for reasons that remain under review and crossed into westbound traffic.
After entering the westbound lanes, the sedan struck the side of an 18-wheeler and was then involved in a second collision with a truck. Emergency crews, including the Albany District One Volunteer Fire Department, assisted in removing the occupants from the sedan.
Police identified the driver who later died at a hospital as David Kilgore of Mississippi. The passenger in the sedan sustained minor injuries. Authorities said others involved in the crash declined medical treatment at the scene.
The interstate was closed for approximately five hours Friday as emergency personnel responded and investigators processed the scene.
A second fatal crash occurred Sunday, Feb. 15, around 1:40 p.m. Police said the collision involved a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on the interstate.
Preliminary findings indicate the sedan entered I-12 westbound by accessing an exit ramp at mile marker 32 and proceeded against the flow of traffic. Authorities said the vehicle then collided with an RV motorhome.
Police identified the three people who died in Sunday’s crash as Jamie Pourciau of Albany, Bailey Lassabe of Albany, and Lassabe’s nine-year-old son. The driver and passengers in the RV sustained minor injuries and were able to exit the vehicle safely, according to officials.
I-12 westbound was closed for approximately six hours Sunday while emergency crews responded and cleared the scene.
“These are tragic incidents for our community and for the families involved,” said Chief Boyd Wild in a statement. He asked the community to keep those affected in their thoughts.
Both crashes remain under active investigation. Authorities have not released additional details as they continue to review evidence and determine the factors that contributed to each incident.
