Jacksonville Rapper Lil Poppa Dies at 25, Medical Examiner Confirms.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the death of rapper Lil Poppa, born Janarious Mykel Wheeler. He was 25 years old.
Officials announced Wednesday, Feb. 18, that the Jacksonville native had died. Authorities said the cause of death remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.
News of Lil Poppa’s passing prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow artists across social media. Among those sharing messages of remembrance were Dej Loaf, Mozzy and Nardo Wick, who acknowledged his impact and legacy within the hip-hop community.
Caroline “Baroline” Diaz, CEO of Great Day Records, also shared a public tribute. Diaz worked with Lil Poppa during the early stages of his career and reflected on their professional relationship, noting her involvement in several of his projects. She described him as one of the first artists she worked with during her time associated with Interscope Records.
Lil Poppa built a reputation for his melodic style and introspective lyrics, gaining recognition in the rap scene over the past several years. In 2022, he signed with Collective Music Group (CMG), the label founded by rapper Yo Gotti.
