Jack D. Unger, Berwick Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on Route 11 in Luzerne County.
The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday morning in Luzerne County.
According to troopers from the Wilkes-Barre barracks, the collision happened around 9:31 a.m. on Route 11, also known as South Canal Street, in Plymouth Township.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2013 Toyota Corolla traveling north crossed the double yellow center lines and collided with a southbound Kenworth commercial truck.
Authorities identified the driver of the Toyota as 45-year-old Jack D. Unger of Berwick. Police reported that he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. Investigators also noted that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Kenworth truck, identified as 54-year-old Bradley G. Dzoch of Shickshinny, was wearing a seat belt and sustained what were described as suspected minor injuries. He was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
State police said the crash caused significant damage to the passenger vehicle, and debris was scattered across the roadway. The scene was processed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Several agencies assisted at the scene, including the Nanticoke City Fire Department, Nanticoke City EMS, Nanticoke City Fire Police, PennDOT, and responding state troopers.
