Corey Shaw, Wrong-Way Crash on U.S. 64 in Martin County Leaves One Deceased.
MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. — Martin County authorities report that a fatal crash occurred on U.S. 64 near Everetts late last night.
According to state troopers, a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the highway collided with a tractor-trailer around 11:30 p.m. The driver of the car, identified as 47-year-old Corey Shaw, died at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, which was carrying a load of potatoes, sustained minor injuries and was transported to ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital for treatment.
Officials say one lane of U.S. 64 remained closed for approximately four hours while emergency responders worked at the scene.
Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and ask motorists to exercise caution in the area.
