Cody Joe Henderson, Wood County Standoff Ends in Fatal Shooting; Officers Hospitalized.
Authorities have identified the man died during a law enforcement standoff in Wood County on Saturday. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the individual was 45-year-old Cody Joe Henderson.
The incident began when deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers attempted to arrest Henderson on six felony warrants near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 515 and Farm-to-Market Road 2966, close to Quitman.
According to the sheriff’s office, Henderson fired multiple rounds from a semi-automatic weapon during the attempted arrest. Both a Wood County deputy and a DPS trooper were critically injured in the exchange. The officers were transported to a Tyler hospital and treated for gunshot wounds.
Following the initial confrontation, Henderson barricaded himself inside a residence. Law enforcement made several attempts to negotiate a surrender before breaching the home at approximately 5:06 a.m. on February 15. Henderson reportedly fired at officers again, who returned fire. Henderson was then taken to a hospital in Quitman, where he later died from his injuries.
Officials confirmed that Henderson had been wanted on multiple charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, theft of a firearm, evading arrest with a vehicle, and two separate warrants for possession of a controlled substance.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office continues to review the incident and work with law enforcement partners to document the events leading up to the fatal shooting. No additional suspects have been reported.
