Ashanti Rachael Agee, 23-Year-Old Woman Killed in Early Morning I-459 Crash in Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 459 Thursday morning.
Authorities said 23-year-old Ashanti Rachael Agee, of McCalla, was involved in the incident, which occurred around 5:19 a.m. near Morgan Road.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates reported that Agee was walking on the interstate when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and called 911. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Agee was pronounced deceased at 5:41 a.m.
Bessemer Police Department is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not released additional details regarding contributing factors, such as speed or impairment.
Officials are reminding the public that walking along highways and interstates is extremely dangerous and encourage individuals to use designated pedestrian pathways whenever possible.
