Andrew E. Emerson, Motorcyclist Dies After Collision With Pickup Truck in Nashville.
Authorities are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Nashville.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement, the collision happened around 1:30 p.m. on Old Hickory Boulevard near Stone Brook Drive. The motorcyclist has been identified as 28-year-old Andrew E. Emerson of Murfreesboro.
Investigators say Emerson was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Old Hickory Boulevard before the crash occurred. Witnesses reported that the motorcycle moved around traffic by traveling along the sidewalk and then crossed several lanes into oncoming traffic before returning to the westbound lanes.
Police say the motorcycle then struck the rear of a pickup truck that was stopped at a traffic light. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Emerson to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. Authorities later confirmed that he died from his injuries.
Officials also noted that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the pickup truck reported no injuries and showed no signs of impairment, according to investigators.
Law enforcement says the crash remains under investigation as officers continue reviewing witness accounts and other available evidence to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the collision.
Traffic safety experts often remind drivers and riders to follow roadway rules and exercise caution, especially in busy intersections and high-traffic corridors. Wearing proper safety gear and maintaining safe driving practices can also play an important role in reducing the risk of severe injuries during accidents.
