Aleksey Fedun, Volodymyr Fedun, Authorities Identify Victims in Fatal Crash Near Green River.

Aleksey Fedun, Volodymyr Fedun – Authorities have identified the two people who lost their lives in a crash near Green River earlier this week.

According to a statement released by the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), the collision occurred along Interstate 80 near mile marker 94. Investigators said a Freightliner combination unit was parked on the south shoulder of the eastbound lanes at the time of the incident. Officials noted that the vehicle was parked illegally in that location.

WHP reported that an eastbound Volvo combination unit drifted onto the shoulder and struck the trailer of the parked Freightliner. Following the impact, the Volvo’s fuel tank was ruptured, leading to a fire in the cab of the truck.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but both occupants of the Volvo were pronounced dead there, according to authorities.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol identified the victims as 36-year-old Aleksey Fedun and 74-year-old Volodymyr Fedun, both from Citrus Heights, California. Officials have not released additional personal details.

Investigators say they are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. In their preliminary findings, WHP indicated that driver inattention and possible fatigue are being considered as contributing factors. No further information has been made available at this time.

The incident remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events.

The crash also contributes to a growing number of roadway fatalities in Wyoming this year. According to data shared by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, there have been 11 deaths on Wyoming roads so far in 2026. By comparison, the state recorded six roadway deaths at the same point in 2025 and two in 2024.

Law enforcement officials regularly remind drivers of the importance of staying alert behind the wheel, especially on long stretches of highway where fatigue can become a serious risk factor. They also emphasize the need to follow parking regulations and roadway safety laws designed to prevent dangerous situations along high-speed interstates.

Interstate 80 is a major transportation corridor that carries both passenger and commercial traffic across southern Wyoming. Crashes involving large commercial vehicles can have significant consequences due to their size and weight, underscoring the importance of caution for all motorists.

Authorities have not announced whether any citations will be issued as part of this investigation. Updates may be provided as more information becomes available.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol continues to urge drivers to remain attentive, well-rested, and mindful of traffic laws to help reduce preventable crashes on the state’s highways.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy.
