Vincenzo Palmeri, Grand Rapids Homicide: Man Dies Following Assault — What Led to the Tragic Incident?
Authorities in Grand Rapids, Michigan, are investigating a fatal assault that occurred Monday morning in the northeast part of the city. According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, officers responded around 11 a.m. to a report of an assault on Palmer Street NE near Center Avenue NE. Upon arrival, first responders found 53-year-old Vincenzo Palmeri suffering from serious injuries. Despite emergency aid at the scene, Palmeri was pronounced dead.
The Kent County Medical Examiner later classified the death as a homicide. Police report that Palmeri knew the suspect, 33-year-old Najee Franklin, who was subsequently arrested. Franklin has been arraigned on a charge of open murder.
Interim Police Chief Joe Trigg praised the officers’ response, noting that some provided immediate medical assistance while others secured the suspect and ensured the safety of neighbors. He described the situation as “tragic for all involved.”
