Jozsef Pal, Family of University of Oklahoma Rugby Player Files Lawsuit Following Fatal Incident.
The family of 23-year-old University of Oklahoma rugby player Jozsef Pal has filed a civil lawsuit in Cleveland County following his death in March 2025. Authorities say the case centers on events that occurred during a night out in Norman, Oklahoma, and alleges delays in obtaining medical assistance after Pal was injured.
According to the petition, Pal visited several Campus Corner establishments after a rugby match, where he consumed alcoholic beverages. The filing claims that staff at multiple locations either failed to intervene appropriately or allowed him to remain in distress. Later, an encounter occurred in a parking lot with three men, during which Pal suffered a serious head injury. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead on March 7, 2025. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by blunt force trauma.
The lawsuit names the three men involved, as well as several Norman businesses and the City of Norman, seeking testimony, evidence, and a full examination of the events that night. Pal’s family is pursuing accountability and transparency, emphasizing that their goal is answers about the circumstances leading to his death.
No criminal charges have been filed in the matter. A spokesperson for the Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office said evidence did not indicate a criminal act sufficient to file charges.
Pal’s family, through their attorney, stated that the filing aims to review the response, decisions, and actions of all parties involved. They are requesting punitive damages to be determined by a jury during trial.
