Johnna Coufal, North Bend, Fog-Related Crash in Dodge County Claims Life of North Bend Woman.

Authorities in Nebraska are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday morning near North Bend.

According to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, emergency dispatchers received reports of a collision at about 7:11 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 30 and County Road 4, roughly three miles west of North Bend. Deputies and emergency responders were sent to the scene shortly after the call came in.

Investigators say a car driven by 47-year-old Johnna Coufal of North Bend was traveling south on County Road 4 when it entered the highway and was struck by a straight truck. The truck involved in the crash was a Freightliner operated by a driver from Omaha.

Authorities confirmed that Coufal died as a result of the crash. Officials said the truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators as crews responded to the incident.

Early findings from investigators suggest that heavy fog in the area at the time may have played a role in the collision. Visibility conditions during the early morning hours were reportedly poor, which may have affected drivers approaching the intersection.

The sheriff’s office noted that, based on preliminary information, neither excessive speed nor alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. However, the investigation remains ongoing as officials continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Local authorities also used the opportunity to remind motorists to exercise caution when driving in reduced visibility conditions such as fog. Slowing down, increasing following distance, and using headlights appropriately are among the safety measures recommended during such weather events.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
