Deborah Yeater, Authorities Identify Victim in Lakeland House Fire.

Officials in Polk County have identified the victim of a house fire that occurred earlier this week in Lakeland.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was 76-year-old Deborah Yeater. The fire happened on the morning of March 3 at a residence located off Ralph Road in an unincorporated neighborhood in the northern part of the Combee Settlement, just south of Saddle Creek Road and east of Lakeland.

Polk County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene and arrived around 9:50 a.m. Authorities reported that the fire had spread to multiple rooms inside the home when firefighters began working to bring the situation under control.

During a search of the residence, crews discovered Yeater inside the home, according to a news release from Polk County Fire Rescue. She was later confirmed deceased at the scene.

Officials also reported that another individual was located outside the residence. That person was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released additional details about the person’s condition.

The incident marks the second fatal residential fire reported in Polk County during the first few days of March. Authorities noted that another house fire earlier in the month in a North Lakeland mobile home community near Lake Gibson also resulted in a fatality.

Investigators from the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office are working together to determine what caused the fire. No further details about the origin or circumstances have been released as the investigation continues.

Fire safety officials often encourage residents to review home safety practices, including maintaining working smoke alarms and preparing emergency plans for households.

As investigators continue examining what led to the Lakeland fire, what fire safety steps do you believe every household should take to help prevent tragedies like this?
