The Killeen Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday night in Killeen.
Authorities report that around 10:20 p.m. on February 25, 2026, officers responded to a shots-fired call near the intersection of Splawn Ranch Road and Zayden Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a man in a nearby field who had sustained a gunshot wound and was unresponsive.
The victim was identified as 35-year-old Brandon James Petree. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson pronounced him deceased at 10:41 p.m.
Preliminary information from police indicates that a 9-1-1 caller reported hearing an argument followed by multiple gunshots prior to the discovery of the victim.
Officials confirmed that one individual has been detained in connection with the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
