BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — A 71-year-old man has died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Boiling Springs, according to town officials.

Police say the collision occurred around 3:31 p.m. on February 17 at the intersection of East College Avenue and South Main Street. Authorities reported that a vehicle traveling north was turning onto East College Avenue when it struck the pedestrian, who was in a marked crosswalk at the time.

The pedestrian, identified as Dragan Stankovic, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials later confirmed that he died from his injuries.

According to the Boiling Springs Police Department, the driver, 47-year-old Quantina Leach, remained at the scene following the crash. Authorities have charged her with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. No additional details about the incident have been released.

Police Chief Brian DiYorio issued a statement expressing condolences to the family and others affected by the incident. He described the situation as heartbreaking for those involved and for the wider community.
