Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday evening on Highway 402 in Huger, South Carolina. The Berkeley County Coroner has identified the victim as 17-year-old Jayln Gilliard of Summerville.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when Gilliard, who was driving a 2017 Hyundai sedan, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Ford pickup truck. Gilliard was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Officials say the crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine all factors involved.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office urge drivers to exercise caution on roadways, especially when traveling at night, and to remain attentive to traffic conditions.
