Claudia Funk, Woman Identified Following Fatal Crash on 14 Freeway in Newhall.
County authorities have identified a 35-year-old woman who died in a crash Wednesday on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Newhall.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victim was Claudia Funk. Officials confirmed her identity Thursday.
The collision was reported at approximately 11:51 a.m. on the northbound 14 Freeway, just north of the Golden State (5) Freeway interchange, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol stated that a Toyota Corolla traveling northbound struck the rear of a parked big rig that was stopped along the right shoulder of the freeway. Investigators said the impact trapped the driver inside the vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Funk was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to CHP officials.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding what led to the collision. The circumstances surrounding why the truck was parked on the shoulder or what factors may have contributed to the crash remain under investigation.
Following the incident, a SigAlert was issued at approximately 12:15 p.m., closing two northbound lanes of the freeway. The lane closures caused traffic delays in the area as crews worked at the scene and investigators gathered information.
The California Highway Patrol is continuing to review evidence and examine the events leading up to the crash. Officials have not announced whether any citations or further actions are pending.
Motorists traveling through the area at the time were advised to seek alternate routes while authorities managed the roadway and cleared the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available through official channels.
