The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the passing of a 19-year-old man found near a lake in Commerce Township.
Officials reported that the body of Andre Sontay Avant, Jr., of Inkster, was discovered early Monday morning near the Proud Lake boat launch on Wixom Road. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the cause of his passing was a gunshot wound and ruled the incident a homicide.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard described the case as “a brutal and senseless homicide” and emphasized the department’s commitment to pursuing justice. He urged the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small, noting that community tips could be critical to solving the case.
A park visitor discovered Avant’s body, according to officials. Investigators are actively reviewing the area and seeking witnesses who may have observed suspicious activity.
