Abdriel Negron, Shelly Brianco – The Connecticut State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday morning on Interstate 84 in Waterbury.
According to state police, the collision happened just before 8 a.m. on I-84 West near Exit 25A. Authorities said a vehicle driven by 16-year-old Abdriel Negron lost control, spun, and struck two other vehicles traveling in the area.
Negron and his passenger, 18-year-old Shelly Brianco, both died as a result of the crash, officials confirmed. State police also reported that the teenage driver did not have a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit at the time of the incident.
The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were not injured, according to authorities.
The crash prompted the closure of I-84 West for several hours as emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene. Traffic was diverted while officials worked to clear the roadway and gather evidence. The highway later reopened.
State police said an accident reconstruction team was called to assist in determining the factors that led to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details at this time.
