Dylan Sanphy, Gorham Resident Killed in Crash in Poland, Officials Confirm.

Authorities are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Poland. According to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened on Plains Road. Deputies responded to the scene after receiving reports of a serious crash involving two vehicles.

Officials say a 26-year-old driver from Gorham was traveling along Plains Road when he attempted to pass another vehicle. During that maneuver, his vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck. The pickup was towing a snowmobile trailer at the time of the crash.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that the 26-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two additional passengers were injured in the crash. Authorities described their injuries as serious, and both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. No further details about their conditions have been released.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, officials have not announced whether speed, road conditions, or other factors may have contributed to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.

Plains Road was temporarily affected as emergency crews worked at the scene. Law enforcement and first responders secured the area, assisted those involved, and began documenting evidence to determine what led to the incident.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers to use caution when attempting to pass other vehicles, particularly on two-lane roads where oncoming traffic may be approaching at highway speeds. Passing maneuvers require clear visibility, adequate distance, and careful judgment to avoid potentially dangerous situations.

Crashes involving head-on impacts are often severe due to the combined force of vehicles traveling in opposite directions. Authorities continue to stress the importance of patience and defensive driving to help reduce the risk of serious accidents.

Officials have not released additional personal details and say updates may be provided as the investigation progresses.

The community is encouraged to keep those affected in their thoughts during this difficult time.
