Eboni Anderson, Officials Release Identity in Palmetto Elementary School Shooting Case.

FULTON COUNTY, GEORGIA — Authorities have identified the woman who was shot and killed Tuesday morning outside Palmetto Elementary School as Eboni Anderson.

According to law enforcement officials, the shooting occurred just before 11 a.m. near the front of the school building. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found Anderson at the scene. She was pronounced dead, authorities said.

School officials immediately placed the campus on a “hard lockdown” as a precaution. More than 550 students and staff members remained inside the building while law enforcement secured the area.

Investigators confirmed that no students, teachers, or staff were physically harmed during the incident. As an added safety measure, students were later relocated to Bear Creek Middle School, where they were reunited with families and dismissed for the day.

Law enforcement agencies worked quickly to locate a suspect. Authorities said the individual was later tracked to Middle Georgia. According to the Warner Robins Police Department, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office apprehended the suspect following a brief vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash.

The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Christopher Loris Ates. He was booked in Houston County on charges including reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and second-degree cruelty to children. Officials said additional charges are pending in Fulton County in connection with Anderson’s death, as well as other charges in Warner Robins.

At this time, investigators have not publicly discussed a motive or clarified the nature of the relationship, if any, between the suspect and Anderson. Authorities also have not confirmed whether Anderson had any formal connection to Palmetto Elementary as a parent, employee, or visitor.

In a letter sent to families, Palmetto Elementary Principal Jacqueline Bowens stated that law enforcement indicated the incident stemmed from a domestic-related dispute that extended onto school grounds. She reassured parents that no one inside the building was ever in direct danger and emphasized that staff followed established safety procedures.

School leaders praised teachers and staff for acting quickly and calmly during the lockdown. Officials said established safety protocols were implemented immediately to protect students and employees.

Counselors and additional support staff are being made available to students, families, and faculty as the school community processes the incident. District officials encouraged parents to talk with their children and reach out for support if needed.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and review information related to the case. Officials have asked the public to avoid speculation and to rely on verified updates from law enforcement.

Court records indicate that the suspect previously served prison time related to a 2006 armed robbery conviction in Houston County. Officials did not comment further on how that history may relate to the current investigation.

Law enforcement leaders expressed condolences to Anderson’s family and acknowledged the emotional impact of the incident on the broader school community.

As classes resume, district officials said safety remains a top priority. Additional security measures and a visible law enforcement presence may continue in the coming days.

Authorities said further updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available.
