Casey Lykins, Officials Release Identity Following Deadly Trenton House Fire.
Officials have identified the woman who lost her life in a house fire Wednesday afternoon as 45-year-old Casey Lykins, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Authorities confirmed she died as a result of smoke inhalation.
The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. at a home in the 700 block of West Aberdeen Drive. Fire officials say the flames appeared to start inside the residence and quickly spread upward through the walls into the attic, causing heavy smoke throughout the home.
Firefighters from the Trenton Fire Department responded swiftly to the scene and immediately began search and rescue efforts. Fire Chief Brian Sebold said crews encountered dense smoke and extremely limited visibility upon entering the home. Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters were able to rescue a dog and continued searching the residence.
During their search, crews located an unresponsive adult woman on the upper level of the home. Emergency responders provided immediate medical assistance, and she was later transported by medical helicopter to a local hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead.
Neighbors described the fire as sudden and fast-moving. John Davenport, who lives nearby, said he noticed smoke rising from the top of the home and quickly realized something was wrong. He watched as firefighters worked urgently to control the fire and rescue the homeowner.
Davenport described Casey Lykins as a friendly and caring neighbor who had lived in the area for more than a decade. He said she was often seen outside with her children and was well-liked throughout the neighborhood. Many neighbors expressed shock and sadness as they learned of her passing.
Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby homes. While the flames were extinguished relatively quickly, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The Butler County Fire Investigation Team, along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, is continuing to investigate the incident. Officials say they will release additional information once more details become available.
