Fort Wayne Coroner Identifies Woman Who Died in Southwest Apartment Fire.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who died following an early‑morning apartment fire on the city’s southwest side, officials say.

Emergency crews with the Fort Wayne Fire Department were dispatched to the Coventry Court West Apartments at 5939 Meadows Drive just after 4 a.m. on Sunday, January 25 after reports of a fire in one of the units.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from an apartment and were able to begin fire attack and search efforts. Residents who had safely evacuated told firefighters that a woman was still inside the unit at the time.

Crews located the woman and attempted life‑saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. A second resident was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has since confirmed the identity of the woman who died, and authorities are working to notify her family.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire officials.
